Chairman of Council, Councillor Peter Herrington welcomed Chief Inspector Ian Vincent to our January meeting to give an overview of the work of the Metropolitan Police Cycle Task Force.

With cycle trips in London having more than doubled since the year 2000, Members were concerned to hear of an increase in cycle fatalities, in particular to female riders in collision with left turning HGVs.

Mr Vincent talked about the awareness raising work that his officers deliver alongside borough road safety officers as part of the 'Exchanging Places' initiative, where cyclists are invited to sit in the cab of an HGV to appreciate a driver's blindspots.

From 20th February there will be a 4 week programme of Exchanging Places demonstrations across London.
